Notes on a Childhood Illness.

He stoppped breathing. We ran to the doctors. A lady saw us running and drove us. He was still limp then. They took him to the hospital. I sat with him in the ambulance. It was a seizure they said. A febrile seizure. Completely normal they said. Roll him onto his side if it happens again. And then we went home. He still had fever. The paracetamol wasn’t working, he was’t drinking. Hours later it was, and he ate and drank. We could fall asleep.
The next day we shared chicken soup in the garden. He said he loved it. I smiled and said I was glad. He screams mama as I write this. His lungs full of air.
