The Desire for Belonging

It maybe said that one of our deepest yearnings of being human is to belong. Belonging acquaints us with a feeling of safety, comfort and home. Often associated with the notion of home, belonging, relates to both place and person. We are sculpted by the places we inhabit and the people within them, being in reciprocity and relationship with each is what gives us meaning. We often desire to find belonging in the tangible, the material “there is a need to relocate belonging in something real” and in this desire is where our homes come alive. But like a house, belonging can be built too… “ There is no House like the house of belonging” David Whyte.
