MOTHERING AND CAREGIVING.

The Delicate Balance.

CARING FOR ONESELF WHILST CARING FOR ANOTHER.

To one question there are many answers. And the question that those who care for another frequently face is how can I care for myself whilst caring for another?

Here can be a delicate balance. The responsibilites of of nurturing another as a mother/ carer/ parent can leave little space or energy outside of its margins to care for oneself, especially in a time where it is not uncommon to live far from trusted sources of support, from extended family and friends. Thus self care as a parent and mother can feel conflicting and at times unattainable, something added to an evergrowing list. And motherhood and caregiving itself, challenges us to re conceptualise the idea of the self, as our selves expand both in mind and body to include another or others. Thus self care maybe a counterintutive notion for carers and mothers, that may bring into focus what the self truly means and what it is to care deeply, for oneself and for others, and to ask ourselves are they separate?
