The Power of Language.

There is a power within language. Communication lies at the core of how we express ourselves in the world, it can alienate and isolate or engage and embrace. Dr Marshell Rosenberg, a psychologist, observed the inherent capacity within language as a means of allowing our “natural compassionate nature to flourish”, developing a specific form of communication, of speaking and of listening, referred to as Non Violent Communication- that strengthens our ability to remain human even under the most trying of circumstances. It begins, he writes in his book ‘Non Violent Communication, A Language of Compassion’ in focusing our consciousness on what we are observing in a situation, feeling and needing and concludes with what we are requesting to enrich our lives. Through its practice it acknowledges our equality and ultimately leads us “to a mutual desire to give from the heart” a chance to be in intimate concert with each other.
